[The Lesson]
[Overview]
I think my teacher and I are really on the same page now. She will explain something to me, make sure I get the concept, and tell me to practice it more when I go home. I love it. This week we picked up where we left off and started a new piece, as well as an exercise that is actually from the exam book. After the next class we’re going to just start working on exam pieces. Thus far I guess she just wanted to use random short pieces to teach a specific technique that I’d need for the exams I guess.
[Technique]
As with the last class the main technical focus was on 花指(Hua Zhi | Glissando). The piece that she gave me, as well as the etude from the exam book was for practicing this technique. The main correction I received was to make sure that I don’t make my glissando extend over too many notes. So to fix that she basically told me to pay attention to the note that I will end on after the glissando. Before I start the glissando, I should put my thumb on the note that is one octave above the note that I will end the glissando on. If I do that, I can guarantee that I will be consistent with my glissandos.
[Repertoire]
1. 花好月圓
2. 小小竹排*
3. 花指練習*
